More About Dr. Lo

Dr. David Lo’s approach to plastic surgery is shaped as much by his life experiences as by his surgical training. Raised in a bicultural household, he spent his early childhood in Taiwan before moving to Atlanta, Georgia—an upbringing that fostered adaptability, curiosity, and a deep respect for people’s stories.

He completed his undergraduate education at Duke University and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Lo then returned to Duke for intensive general surgery training, followed by advanced research at Stanford University School of Medicine in pediatric regenerative medicine and stem cell biology. His academic work has resulted in more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in leading scientific journals. He went on to complete his plastic and reconstructive surgery training at Emory University, where he trained alongside nationally and internationally recognized leaders in the field.

While Dr. Lo values technical excellence, what ultimately defines his practice is a commitment to thoughtful, patient-centered care. He believes plastic surgery should restore more than form—it should restore confidence, dignity, and a sense of wholeness. His clinical interests include aesthetic breast surgery, restorative breast and body contouring following massive weight loss, breast reduction, and breast reconstruction, as well as surgical and non-surgical facial and body rejuvenation.

On a deeply personal level, the loss of his son, Rhett, profoundly changed the way Dr. Lo sees medicine and life. It reinforced the importance of empathy, presence, and listening—reminding him that every patient carries a story that deserves respect and compassion. This perspective is central to how he practices: with intention, humility, and genuine care.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Lo is actively involved in the Knoxville community and serves on the advisory board for Breast Connect.  He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Cancer Support Community of East Tennessee.  He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, discovering new food and bourbon, and cheering on his beloved Duke basketball team. Above all, he is passionate about creating a space where patients feel seen, supported, and confident in their care—from the first consultation through long-term follow-up.
