Breast Augmentation
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Knoxville, TN

Breast augmentation is a procedure that enhances the size, shape, symmetry, and fullness of the breasts using either saline or silicone implants. (1)
Several factors can alter the shape and composition of the breasts throughout your life, including pregnancy, weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and more. Breastfeeding or pregnancy can slowly stretch the skin and cause it to lose its elasticity, weight fluctuations can cause fat to accumulate near the chest, and hormonal changes can affect the density of your breast tissue. Alongside these changes, many patients simply desire fuller, larger breasts. Breast augmentation can address all of these concerns within one procedure, allowing you to look and feel better than ever.
Dr. David Lo of Lumiere Plastic Surgery + MedSpa is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He offers extensive experience in breast reconstruction, body contouring, and rejuvenation techniques, and he has helped countless patients across Tennessee and beyond transform their appearance.

About Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses implants to refine the shape, symmetry, and volume of your breasts. This procedure often enhances the chest after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss, but it can also reconstruct the breasts after a mastectomy or injury. Additionally, many women seek this procedure simply to achieve larger, fuller breasts that enhance confidence.
About Motiva Preservé®
Motiva® Preservé® is a new breast augmentation technique that can provide subtle enhancements to the breast while minimizing any underlying tissue damage. This technique uses less invasive techniques that refrain from using any incisions past the initial one, allowing you to better preserve the natural structures, shape, and sensations of your breasts. (2)
Types of Breast Implants
Our practice offers several different types of implants to accommodate a range of aesthetic preferences and personal goals. We offer saline, silicone, and gummy bear breast implants, each of which offer their own unique yet natural-looking results.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants encapsulate a sterile saltwater solution in a silicone shell. Dr. Lo can place these implants into the chest empty, and then fill them afterwards, and this usually allows for a smaller incision.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants contain a cohesive silicone gel inside a silicone shell. Silicone breast implants mimic the softness of natural breast tissue and often best suit patients who are thinner or possess less natural breast volume. (1)
Gummy Bear Implants
Gummy bear breast implants are a type of silicone implant that holds its shape even if a rupture occurs. Along with their added durability, (3) gummy bear implants can offer more fullness at the bottom portion of the breasts.
SmoothSilk Ergonomix
Motiva® SmoothSilk Ergonomix® implants are gel implants that can adapt their shape to the positions and motions of your body. They appear round when you lie down and anatomical when standing up to realistically replicate the motions of organic breast tissue. (2)
Benefits
Breast augmentation offers several notable benefits, including:
- Improved Proportions: Breast augmentation creates a more balanced appearance between the chest and body, creating a more desirable and attractive figure overall.
- Corrected Asymmetry: Breast augmentation effectively addresses any unevenness between your breasts, creating a more symmetrical look.
- Restored Volume: Breast implants restore fullness to the breasts, especially after events such as pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Personalized Solutions: Each aspect of your surgical plan revolves around your goals, anatomy, and aesthetic concerns. This ensures personalized results that fulfill your expectations.
- Lasting Results: Breast implants can last for up to a decade before replacement may be necessary, making this procedure a worthwhile investment for many.
Candidates
Many women qualify for breast augmentation; however, this procedure best suits those who wish to enhance the shape, volume, and symmetry of their breasts. Patients seeking reconstruction after a mastectomy or injury may also benefit.
If you are interested in breast augmentation, you will need to be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding the results of your procedure. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine entirely. Dr. Lo will determine your candidacy during your consultation.
Personal Consultation
Attending a personal consultation with Dr. Lo will ensure the best possible outcome for your breast augmentation. During this initial meeting, Dr. Lo will explain the benefits and limitations of what a breast augmentation can achieve. He will assess your medical history, discuss your concerns, and listen to your aesthetic goals. He will also perform a physical examination to evaluate the current condition and anatomy of your breasts.
Dr. Lo will use this information to determine the most appropriate techniques and approaches for your goals. He will also dedicate time to answering your questions and addressing your concerns. By the time your meeting is over, you will have a personalized solution to enhance the shape of your breasts.
To schedule this consultation, please contact us online or call our Knoxville office at (865) 357-2639.
Preparation
Dr. Lo will provide a set of personalized pre-operative instructions to help you prepare for your breast augmentation. These may vary depending on the details of your procedure, but you can expect to:
- Refrain from taking medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
- Prearrange transportation to and from your procedure.
- Take time away from your responsibilities to focus on resting.
- Fill any prescriptions you will need during your recovery.
- Discontinue any nicotine use in the weeks before (and after) your procedure.
- Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages in the days before and after your procedure.
Procedure
Your breast augmentation will begin with a member of our team cleansing and sanitizing your skin before you receive general anesthesia. Dr. Lo will then begin placing incisions around your breasts to access their underlying structures. He may use one of two incision techniques, depending on your individual anatomy and goals. These include the inframammary incision or the periareolar incision.
- Inframammary Incision: This incision extends horizontally beneath the breast crease.
- Periareolar Incision: This incision extends around the outer edge of your areolas.
After making the necessary incisions, Dr. Lo will create a pocket for your breast implant to rest in. He may either place the implant submuscularly or subglandularly, both of which offer natural-looking results and unique benefits. Submuscular placement places the implant fully beneath the pectoral muscle, while subglandular placement places the breast implant above the pectoral muscle. (1) Once the implant is in place, Dr. Lo will use specific techniques to close each incision before allowing you to rest under the care of the Lumiere team.
Motiva® Preservé®
If you are receiving Motiva® Preservé®, Dr. Lo will place an inframammary incision to access the underlying structures of your breast. He will then use a Motiva® Channel Separator to create a tunnel through your tissues, eliminating the need to sever them. Through this tunnel, Dr. Lo will insert the Motiva® Inflatable Balloon Tool to create a pocket for your implant. He will then place the implant before closing the incisions with sutures and placing you under the care of his team.
Recovery
After your procedure, Dr. Lo will provide post-operative instructions to help you navigate your recovery. You may notice swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the treated areas. These effects will gradually subside on their own, but you may also manage them with prescribed medication, cold compresses, and plenty of rest. Dr. Lo may also provide you with a compression bra to wear as you heal. You must wear this garment as directed, as it will help you minimize swelling and maintain the new sculpt of your chest.
You will be able to return to most of your daily activities after resting for approximately one to two weeks, but you will need to continue refraining from any strenuous activities until Dr. Lo provides clearance. Our team will also monitor your healing progress at follow-up appointments.
Results
You will be able to enjoy the results of your breast augmentation immediately after your procedure, with continued refinement as any residual swelling subsides. Your breasts will appear fuller, more symmetrical, and shapely. You may also notice improvements in the proportions of your figure and overall balance between your breasts and the remainder of your body.
The results of breast augmentation are long-lasting, with many patients experiencing their results for years. However, breast implants are not lifetime devices, and patients usually need to replace them every 10 years.
Corresponding Procedure
Breast Lift
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a breast procedure that addresses loose or sagging breast tissue. This procedure elevates the position of the breasts on the chest wall to reduce deflation and create a perkier, more uplifted appearance. Many patients choose to pair their breast augmentation with a breast lift to address both breast position and fullness, comprehensively recontouring the chest in a single procedure.
